Corsica / Wild and Natural
A superyacht charter in Corsica is like stepping onto an entire continent, not just an island. Its vast geographical diversity will astound the most hardened explorer or wow those who prefer glitzy beach towns. It sits off of the coast of the South of France, yet lies in closer proximity to Italy. However, for over 200 years has been under the rule of the French. Corsica though, beats distinctly to the rhythm of its own drum: It has its own customs, cuisine, character and even language –all of which, the Coriscan’s are very proud of. It is entirely possible to spend a full charter on the island exploring the rugged and soaring peaks of the mid-lands, the lush valleys, dense forests, stunning coastline and enigmatic towns and villages. As a charter destination, it doesn’t get any better than over 600 miles of coastline and numerous coves and sandy beaches to explore.
Starting in the capital and where the international airport is located, Ajaccio is a good place to meet your yacht in the well-equipped marina. The town is an interesting place to meander – being the birthplace of Napoleon there are many reminders of its history including a tour to the house in which he was born.
Calvi, located in the northwest of the island has a French Riviera vibe-superyachts line up to moor in the brasserie and café-lined harbor, while its residents strut along the boutique-laced streets. It lies in a moon-shaped bay bordered by the burnt orange bastions of the 15th century citadel. This small town is a very hot tourist trap though and can be extremely busy in the summer months.
Arguably one of the finest marinas in the Mediterranean lies in Corsica and the town of Bonifacio. This town is a perfect example of a fortified medieval town. It lies on a rocky outcrop which on one side lies the blues waters of the Med and the other is the deep water harbor. Here, spend some time exploring its citadel, narrow streets and medieval architecture. Destinations Ajaccio/Bonifacio/Calvi.
