Malta/Golden Beaches and Hidden Coves
Being a relatively new superyacht charter destination, the Maltese archipelago offers a myriad of hidden coves, splendid diving opportunities and golden sand beaches bordering seven islands. Each has something different to offer including walled cities, stupendous fortresses and, on Malta, an underground tunnel system dating back to WW II – explore at your own pace in remote and private anchorages.
The main three islands of Malta, Gozo and Comina resonate with a deep-rooted international shipping history being based between Sicily and North Africa. This makes for an extremely pleasant cruising ground filled with many relatively empty anchorages – plus the climate is of the sunniest found in Europe and can offer late season charter opportunities.
When arriving into the archipelago, schedule some time in Malta – the largest of the islands. Explore the old walled city of Valletta, examine how the people expertly blend old world with a new generation – meaning this city is now a buzz with fine dine restaurants, many bars and even nightclubs.
Gozo – this placid little island offers rest and recuperation from the fast pace of Malta and the rest of the west Med. It’s traditional feel can instantly transport it’s visitors back in time – even the buildings are still largely made from stone as opposed to concrete. Wander the streets to find remote rural farmhouses and baroque-styled churches. It is possible to see the sea at any point from the island.
Comino is one for those who love the water – it offers a plethora of diving and snorkeling opportunities including exploring old wrecks of WWII planes lying in the shallow waters off of the coast.
On land, no cars or urban development means it is a paradise for hikers, and photographers. Destinations Comino/Gozo/Valletta.
